So an interesting thing is happening. Model Year 2011 and 2012 Jaguar XFR, XKR Coupes, and XJL Supersports are all gathering around the $35k mark. All three of these Jaaags use the same 510 hp supercharged 5.0L V8. This means that within the next two years the XKR Convertibles and SWB XJ Supersports will all be at the same price points leaving us with 5 different variations of same model and same 510hp powertrain Jaguars available for under $35k in great condition. My question is, for less than the price of a 200hp Volkswagen CC, which would you go for?

I also want to point out that these particular models are stylistically sleepers when compared to their R-S variants, which is why I love them so much! All models are pretty much between 4,000-4600lbs, get around 15/22 mpg, and have 0-60mph times in the mid 4 second range. So it’s almost a bodystyle choice than anything else.

XKR Coupe, because I like it.

While an XFR would be cool, the correct answer is none, because I’m not stupid.

Since it’s the lesser of 3 aesthetic evils, XFR. But only if I had to.

XFR in British Racing Green and tan interior, and a full CarMax or factory CPO warranty with a $0 deducible. I like the XJ and XK, but the J is too big for my needs now, the K too flashy/attention-grabbing.

XFR, because it just suits me, even though the XKR is prettier (and also not a bad* choice).

*A CarMax warranty is required even for the thought experiment.

Have any of these commenters been in these cars? XJL Supersport every damn time. The XKR felt pretty ancient. The XFR isn’t far off. The XJL Supersport is your gloriously comfortable ferry to Jaguar hell. It feels lighter than it really is, has lots of great touches and materials, and a design that still stands out.

I have an XF so an XFR would be the logical choice, however I absolutely love the XKR. I’d take either, with the preference being for the XKR.

Mechanically they aren’t that bad, however expect parts for them to be expensive when things -do- go bad. Contrary to popular belief, they are all reasonably reliable.

As a past used XK owner, I’m sure any choice is a winner, but I’m holding out for a base F-Type myself. 340 hp is enough for a fun ride in the right car and the F-Type is the right car.

Then again, for a bit less, there are still XK’s that will provide a really nice ride and have plenty of good miles left in them. That car has a place in my heart after driving it up Pike’s Peak and then through back roads out in the desert. It was really a great road trip car. I had everything for two people for two weeks including golf bags and it all fit in the trunk. Try that in any other convertible.

The XK coupe is already just about my favorite car design from the last ten years, so that.

Stalking a few XKR’s as we speak....
